Colonoscopy
A colonoscopy is a procedure that is completed in a hospital or a clinic. During a colonoscopy, a doctor will place a thin tube with a camera inside your rectum. The doctor will look for polyps or cancers throughout your colon and rectum. If the doctor finds a polyp or small cancer, they can often remove it during the procedure. People have to cleanse their bowel before the procedure. Most people need to take 1-2 days off work to prepare for and complete the procedure. Most people are sedated during the procedure so they feel no pain or discomfort. If results are normal, a colonoscopy only needs to be completed every 10 years.
